Welcome to Boise State! Your Guide to Staying Safe

Welcome to Boise State University! The Department of Public Safety is dedicated to creating and providing a safe and welcoming campus environment for everyone. This email provides essential information to help you navigate campus safety resources.

Your Safety Matters:

  • Emergency: For any emergency, always call 9-1-1.
  • Crime Reporting: If you experience a crime or witness one in progress, report it immediately. Contact Public Safety 24/7 through the RAVE Guardian app, by emailing publicsafety@eduftp.net, or calling (208) 426-6911.
  • Sexual Assault Prevention: Sexual assault is a serious issue, and unfortunately, the risk is highest during the first several weeks of the semester. Any sexual activity without consent is a crime and a violation of University policy (Policy 1065)A victim is never to blame for sexual assault; the perpetrator is solely responsible. A student found responsible for sexual misconduct can face expulsion.

Empower Yourself:

  • Here are tips to help prevent situations:
    • If you hear or see someone planning to target another person, intervene! Talk to them directly or enlist help from a friend, parent, or trusted adult.
    • Witness disrespectful behavior? Speak up! Get help or intervene if someone needs it.
    • Look out for friends. Be a good wingperson.
    • Plan your transportation and communicate your plans with trusted friends.

Party Smart:

  • Go with a group you trust and keep an eye on each other.
  • If you drink, know your limits and drink responsibly. Pace yourself, eat beforehand, and alternate alcoholic drinks with water.
  • Keep an eye on your drink at all times.
  • University officials support students seeking help. The Broncos Act amnesty program protects students who report medical emergencies regardless of potential violations like underage drinking or drug use.
  • If you see someone in distress who needs medical attention, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.

Stay Informed:

  • Timely Warnings: We are required by law to send alerts about crimes that could pose a threat to campus safety. These alerts include details about the incident and safety resources. You’ll receive them via text or email.
  • Bronco Alerts: These emergency notifications are sent via text message during significant emergencies or dangerous situations, like urgent weather conditions or law enforcement activity.
